Gary's Gay Parita
Don’t miss Gary’s beautiful collection of old gas station and Route 66 memorabilia. Gary’s Gay Parita is a sight for sore eyes for those of us who want to keep the spirit of Route 66 alive. Sadly, Gary has recently passed but you can still enjoy his labor of love as someone who saw the importance of preserving our American history.

Red Oak II
This private community is a real blast-from-the-past that you want to make sure that you see with your own eyes. Lowell Davis began construction on Red Oak II during the late 1980’s and has since then turned it into a real midwest 66 utopia. Today, there are residents who live in the community who are happy to share the beauty of Davis’ art with visitors, just be sure to be respectful of their homes. You can also recognize the art of Lowell Davis around Carthage, such as the ‘Crap Duster’ seen at the Flying W gas station across from the Best Budget Inn. Boots Court Motel
The Boots Court Motel was built in 1939 at what was known as the ‘Crossroads of America’ and was designed specifically for the comfort of the Route 66 traveler. After being inoperable for a period of time, the Boots Court Foundation was established and its new owners have brought the beautiful motel back to life. While the Boots Court’s architecture is a wonder during the day, it’s even better to see at night under the glow of the neon lights. Read about the history and see inside of the rooms on the new Boots Court website.
